#Carniriv2014Edition: 14th – 20th December 2014

“In 2014,it is our intention to leverage on the successes of thepast two editions to forge a lucid and instantly identifiable philosophical pathway for the brand. More importantly, it is our thinking that by playing on the well documented virtues unique to our clime, we would be able to deliver a wholesome package, which consistently reinforces the brand CARNIRIV and ostensibly adds the much needed impetus to our tourism development narrative.

The 2014 edition of the carnival is tagged”CARNIRIV 2014:ONE PEOPLE ONE LOVE EDITION”, with the theme “Unified in our destiny”. And is set to run from December 14 to December 20, 2014.

The underlying thought behind the tag and theme for this year stems from the basic predisposition of the Rivers people to warmth and hospitality. A slightly keener examination would then reveal these virtues as being the direct consequence of our natural instinct to wrest adversity off our common destiny and prevail by the consequence of our predilection for love, affection and respect for our common kind. In essence, the Rivers people display a penchant for peace and a strong regard for positive evolvement under an atmosphere of unity.

In effect ,to attract solid future investments(foreign and local like)to Rivers State, the strong points of our current social existence as a people ought to be persistently and directionally emphasized.

So,in our bid to welcome the rest of the world to our green environment bustling with a plethora of super-viable economic and investment opportunities, we must brace-up to tell palatable tales and sing mellifluous songs of the peace and security in the land of our fathers-accentuated by the unit shared by its variegated civilizations and facilitated by the spontaneity of warmth and love exuding from the heart of its peoples.”

HarrySong after scoring a cross border hit with ‘Beta Pikin (Remix)‘ feat. the award winning duo, Toofan, The Five Star recording artiste serves the official follow-up single with another Amir-produced number titled ‘Ofeshe.’ ‘Ofeshe‘ is as melodious tune which seem like an hybrid sound heavily inspired by Chaka Demus and Plier’s Bam Bam.

MUSICAL ARTISTES THAT "MAY LIKELY" PERFORM AT #CARNIRIV2014 (@CARNIRIVNIGERIA)

Note that the official List of performing artiste at Carniriv2014 is yet to be known, names mentioned here are that of the writers personal opinion/suggestions & not of the Carniriv.

As recently announced Carniriv this year "ONE LOVE, ONE PEOPLE" starts 14th to 20th December 2014 “CARNIRIV” THE PORT HARCOURT CARNIVAL is Africa’s largest carnival and Nigeria’s oldest carnival- this owing largely to the pre-extant CARNIRIV ’88 franchise.

“The government of Rivers State recognises CARNIRIV as its biggest tourism export. With economic interests increasingly identifying tourism as a viable alternative to the fossil fuel economy- especially in these parts- the state government has exhibited its commitment to developing this carnival into a regionally unrivalled and globally reckoned tourist attraction. By allying a sound and strategic ideology with empirical business models and just the right amount of private-sector participation, this objective is realizable. “
Last year we witnessed loads of performance’s from Celebrities all  round the world so while we waiting for the 2014 list here is my personal prediction for this year.

THE MAVIN - DON JAZZY & OTHERS ▸

Mavin Records – Arguably the #1 music Record label currently in Africa right now headed by Don Jazzy with label acts Tiwa Savage, Dr SID, D’Prince, Di’Ja, Reekado Banks and Korede Bello you can agree with me that the song recorded by the allstars "DOROBUCCI" recorded a huge success & will not be long forgotten as people where once upon a time adding DORO to their names & left the people asking questions "What is Dorobucci?" i have this strong feeling the mavin will be performing in 2014 carniriv festival even with the song "ADAOBI" still topping the chart they remain consistent & outstanding in their style of delivery.

DAVIDO ▸

With songs like ‘Aye’ ,’Tchete’ featuring Mafikizolo & a couple of throwback hit singles  Davido no doubts may feature in Carniriv 2014 also . He was in carniriv last year but the level at which he is highly rated i can bet on his performance .

P-SQUARE ▸

The Okoye twins Peter & Paul  where also present in carniriv last year and their performance lasted for hours as they ushered almost all their hit singles  & currently the Album “Double Trouble” was released few months back with hit songs like Testimony, Collabo Ft. Don Jazzy ,Shekini & Ejeajo which featured international act T.I with visuals out  & receiving massive airplay they may likely  feature in carniriv 2014.

PHYNO & OLAMIDE ▸

This two indegenous rappers who are popularly known for dishing out tunes consistently and are most loved by both those who understand & do not understand the lyrics to thier songs are no doubts one Nigeria’s best rappers . Olamide raps in yoruba while phyno in igbo language coupled with a touch of English language they may likely perform in carniriv this year hopefully .

PATORANKING ▸

Alubarika is all i see ever since the song Alubarika which featured his godfather Timaya followed by Girlie O was released the star act has made a name for himself with credit production from wizzypro you can agree with me that he currently has a huge fanbase with his unique style . Hopefully he may feature in Carniriv Reggae Night. On a personal note, I think Patoranking has a shot recent i can bet he will be in carniriv.

TIMAYA ▸

Now of course the list will be incomplete without the mention of the #1 dancehall king “Timaya” . Till date Ukwu remains a hit song 7 with the album “Epiphany” out loaded with heavy songs like the current SankO which already has been loved up by many leaving other act going by the style already Timaya isno doubt may make the list this year as always .

MR 2KAY ▸

Mr 2kay has just dominated the majority of 2014 with his songs  like Bubugaga, Summer Girl ,Don’t Leave & his latest heavy weight global wave making hit single “Bad Girl Special” featuring Patoranking , the Rivers/Port Harcourt indegene Signed to Graftons Records by Big T just have to be in carniriv but then its my list remember . Mr 2kay has 9/10 of the Port Harcourt Music Fans  before the heavy break in Lagos ,London ,uk as well as many other countries. It’s is very much expected that Mr 2kay should be in carniriv 2014.

K.CEE & HARRYSONG ▸

KCee & Harrysong have been putting out singles constently & i believe they will be in Carniriv this year as well,With Fine Face by K Cee & Better Pikin Remix by Harrysong the MTN Ambassadors may feature as well.

D-SMART ▸

Currently with a gospel tune “Izurukeme” featuring Samsong as well as been the face behind the theme song for carniriv you just have to expect D Smart this year as well. D-Smart cannot be forgotten for the throwback song Small Stout as well.

DUNCAN MIGHTY ▸

Its Port Harcourt & his the Port Harcourt first son so i will reserve my comments for critics.

BURNA BOY • DOUBLE JAY • BUKWILD • IJAW BOYZ • SPLENDID • MAXI • KNOWLEDGE • DANAS ▸

Burna Boy is a Port Harcourt breed & like the saying never forgetyour roots for you not to be forgotten & especting Burna in carniriv this year .

Indigenous home based act Double Jay have dominated the city of Port Harcourt with the song Bobo juice & there is no way he is not performing in carniriv this year but then its a probability list so you can’t have my words .

Bukwild dominated with the song Fish & recently followed it up with Land No dey Run which is dominating the city of Port Harcourt am watching out for him as well .

IJAW BOYZ should be expected as well but then remember its my probability list .

SPLENDID is making waves with his undeniable flows. From the South South to North, this catchy number, “Makossa”  is already moving dance halls all over Nigeria he was featured last year so with his current wave making songs am expecting him as well.

KNOWLEDGE is making rounds  as well as DANAS who is one of my favorite lookout for with the song “My Melody” Shooting bed ….fly away.. DANAS will definitely be in carniriv this year.

WIZKID • OBA OMEGA • WANDE COAL • INDIANA ▸

WIZKID (aka Star boy), He’s currently dominating Naija & away with several songs off his last album AYO (Joy). The bangers on it are just too many; I don’t even know where to start. lets simply hope for the best. He may & may not be in carniriv .

Multiple award winning Nigerian South South based music act OBA OMEGA will no doubt be featured in Carniriv this year as he stands out as an artiste who have helped & given a spot for the up & rising acts in Port Harcourt as well as promoted entertainment in Port Harcourt. The song "Soccer Dance" still dominate the city of Port Harcourt .

WANDE COAL made the official list last year, so with the song "BABY HELLO" he’s likely to feature in carniriv this year as well.

Indigenous act INDIANA whose single “WINNER” recorded huge success is one act i am strongly watching out to see in carniriv2014″ Na me the amayinabo, seriyanabo ….

YEMI ALADE • FORTUNE • SEYI SHAY • KESSYDRIZ • CEE4 • DIZZ BABY €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€▸

Firstly let mestart by saying TIWA SAVAGE is in the mavin list before you crucify me. Singer YEMI ALADE is the Femcee of the year if you ask me with her song "JOHNNY" you can agree with me that song is outstanding. YEMI ALADE quickly followed it up with "TANGERINE" & "KISSING". I’m expecting her.

FORTUNE remains the #1 hardworking female in Port Harcourt with her constant follow up hit singles as well as videos been directed by EDDY IZYCS... the femcee have passed the level of just been the Port Harcourt artiste but also getting the nation wide recognition.

SEYI SHAY, left lips open with smile in the faces of people as she dropped the song "Murda which featured Patoranking . She also has other hit songs to her credit as well. Hoping to see her.

KESSYDRIZ was the femcee behind carniriv Theme song last year and she of recent released the song “Husling” produced by Tommybeatz she is no doubt espected in carniriv 2014.

CEE4, fast rising female art with good songs she is rated next big act to watch out for.

DIZZ BABY has been working real hard, She's got her single "SEXY DADDY" and the video making buzz already + has also got the deserving hype, am expecting her as well.

RUNTOWN • IYANYA • J. MARTINS • SKALES • MIXZY ▸

RUNTOWN featured Davido in "GALLARDO" & it did record a huge success coupled with "SUCCESSFUL" which was released as a follow up single. Lets still anticipate the official list.

IYANYA i have nothing much to say but lets still hope for the best.

I believe SKALES will recieve a very big welcome with the song "SHAKE BODY" as well as “GIVE IT TO ME" by the carniriv audience.

J. MARTINS is one artiste I respect a lot & till date he keeps his fanbase strong with fresh hits.

MIXZY the wololo master is well to be expected.

M-KAZE ▸

Currently relocated to Lagos but still having a strong fanbase in Port Harcourt, I hope he makes the list.

WINNERS AT #CARNIRIV2014 MIC CHECK AUDITION ▸

This is where i can guarantee you that the winners at the just concluded Mic check Audition must perform!!

M.I • ICE PRINCE ▸

Recently M.I dropped the Chairman Album & this may qualify him for Carniriv 2014 & Ice Prince have so far been consistent

WORTHY MENTIONS ▸

BECOMING A GOOD ARTISTE MANAGER & THE CHALLENGES IN THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY (@BadmusBello)

So many artiste wonder why they don’t get to succeed in the Nigerian Music industry and most times they feel they are cursed not to succeed but trust me if you work wisely (work hard) & take advantage of every positive opportunity you would be just more than your expectation.

Currently record labels are going through a lot of challenges as many signed and successful artiste ask for Cars, houses forgetting the most important thing which is Promotion.

After these record labels have spent a lot of money to get the artist to limelight and successful at the end of the day these artiste back out of the record deal a year or two with the mindset of been cheated upon with the percentage share & with the feeling of “YES!!! I can do it now alone they can go f*#k themselves and stop making money from my effort” but they forgetting the spotlight opportunity that was given to them by these record label while they were ripping off the effort of the label boss or whoever believed so much in them & gave them the Spotlight.

They probably would have been in the same upcoming artiste level till they finally give up. Now that’s not the issue though let me outline some important issues why most Nigerian artiste fail..

FINANCES ▸
Many artists are under-funded. Sometimes this is a result of lack of funds to begin with. Sometimes it is because the available funds are not spent wisely. Successful artists know that they need to constantly invest and reinvest in their act. They establish a budget and stick with it. They raise capital if it is necessary, whether it comes from investors, crowd sourcing, a loan or some sort of enterprising venture. If they are not good at managing their money, they hire someone who is “A Manager”. They do not let money, or the lack of it stop them.

Many artists quit too soon. Maybe they have had some success and so they stop doing the things that got them there. Many just get tired of wasting time, money and effort, when all the while they have started creating the kind of buzz that can lead to much bigger and better things.

Successful artists refuse to give in. They are determined to figure the puzzle out. They measure the results of their efforts so they see and work to capitalise on even the smallest amounts of progress.

TALENT ▸
Many artists think they are talented enough to cut through the clutter and stand out among the millions of other artists competing for the same fans.

Successful artists work tirelessly at their crafts and strive to be the absolute best songwriters, performers, musicians etc. They are always looking for ways to improve, both individually and as a group.

UNIQUENESS ▸
Many Nigerian artists are trying to be the next like 2face, Timaya, Burna Boy, Patoranking, Omawunmi etc instead of creating a sound and look all their own.

Even though they may be incredibly talented, nothing about them distinguishes them from the artists they hear on the radio or the multitude of similar artists vying for attention.

Successful artists know that the best way to stand out from the crowd is to be unique in as many ways as possible, and they work hard at it. They also know how to build a brand around their uniqueness.

THE WORK ETHIC ▸
Many artists are not willing to do the behind the scenes work that successful artists do relentlessly. If you ask them they will simply tell you this “No record label” but then go back and see the reason why a label is scared of signing you above . You as an artiste may be waiting to be discovered but trust me you have to first create your own success by making plenty of effort like

1) Get a good producer & record your own song with your money .

2) Attend shows and beg for a spotlight by performing because you just don’t know who is watching.

3) Make a promotional CD ,branded most importantly and try getting it to people that are successful in the Industry or Promoters & Deejays . Branded CD’s shows the level of the seriousness in you.

4) Get yourself online & make push out promotion ,disturb with your song.

5) You don’t believe in Talent Hunt so you don’t attend ,Please change your mindset .

6) READ THE REST BELOW.......

WHAT TO DO? HOW TO DO IT? ▸
Many artists are willing to do the work but don’t know what to do. Many don’t know where to even start & most importantly are afraid that they will do things wrong so they don’t do anything. Remember not doing anything gives you nothing also.

They undergo challenges like marketing, performing, song writing, legal issues, recording and other important facets of their careers. Successful artists do their homework and tap into experts who help to guide them.

They study the ins and outs of the industry. They learn to make wise decisions. Most importantly as an upcoming artiste find a mentor(s) or coach who will guide you.

YOU NEED A MANAGER!! ▸
Without been told you know you need a manager to handle your career in every way.

Many artists act un-professionally, or just don’t have a pleasing personality. They don’t treat others with respect. They are not on time for gigs, rehearsals, photo shoots, interviews or anything else.

They are oblivious to other people’s feelings, egos, needs or desires. Successful artists always act in a professional manner. They are personable, so people want to be around them and help them succeed. They know that this is what it takes to earn the respect of their team, their fans and the industry.

Many Nigerian artists have no idea who their fans are. They can’t tell you with any sense of accuracy their biggest fan demographics like age, gender, income level, where they live, what their occupations or hobbies are etc.

Successful artists know their fans and everything about them because they interact with them. Many conduct surveys and contests to extract demographic information that they use to select the merch they sell.

They use that info to know what to write songs about. They track where the people who visit their website are coming from so they know where to book gigs.

Many artists are bad communicators they don’t keep their fans informed about the shows they will be performing next.

INEFFECTIVE EFFORTS ▸
Many artists think they are doing the right things, but for some reason they are not hitting the mark. Some of the reasons for this are that they are not doing enough, are doing the wrong things, are doing things wrong, are missing some of the pieces or do things in the wrong order.

Also included in this list are the artists who do things for the wrong reasons. Many just throw everything against the wall to see what sticks. Successful artists know what to do, how to do it, when to do it, where to do it, and how to get the most from it.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS ▸
Many artists do not take the time to build relationships both in the industry and with their fans. It’s very important you build relationship with promoters & your fans.

Yes even with your money some will have you begging them to feature your work but if remember success is your aim . Successful artists do both, and they know how to keep and continuously deepen those relationships.

TEAM ▸
Many artists try to do everything themselves ”One Man Mopol”. This may be because they want to retain complete control, or it may be because they don’t know how to put a strong team together. Often no one wants to work with them because they don’t have anything happening.

Successful artists know how to make themselves attractive to key team members. They know how to assemble a powerful team and keep them engaged.

BECOME UNPREDICTABLE ▸
Many artists get stuck in ruts and never climb out of them, becoming stale and predictable. This can become evident in their music, their stage show, the look and feel of their marketing, they way they dress and everything else they do. Successful artists are always adding new dimensions to themselves.

They keep everyone curious about just what they are going to come up with next. They not only watch the trends, they either jump ahead of them or set their own. They find ways to become pioneers. They avoid stagnation by constantly reinventing themselves, all the while remaining true to their fans and their brand.

PACKAGING ▸

Many artists look like amateurs. Their promo materials, if they have them they are not attractive. Many don’t dress appropriately, especially for shows . Successful artists know that everything about them and everything that represents them has to make them look like they are in the major leagues. They never settle for ‘good enough.’ They hire experienced graphic designers to create their online and print marketing. They dress like businesspeople when it is appropriate. They know that their biggest competitors are doing the same!

There are countless more reasons why some artists fail and some succeed. Timing, unforeseen circumstances such as illness, lack of family support, etc.

REASONS WHY MOST NIGERIAN UPCOMING ARTISTE FAIL AND OTHERS SUCCEED (@BadmusBello)

So many artiste wonder why they don’t get to succeed in the Nigerian Music industry and most times they feel they are cursed not to succeed but trust me if you work wisely (work hard) & take advantage of every positive opportunity you would be just more than your expectation.

Currently record labels are going through a lot of challenges as many signed and successful artiste ask for Cars, houses forgetting the most important thing which is Promotion .

After these record labels have spent a lot of money to get the artist to limelight and successful at the end of the day these artiste back out of the record deal a year or two with the mindset of been cheated upon with the percentage share & with the feeling of “YES!!! I can do it now alone they can go f*#k themselves and stop making money from my effort” but they forgetting the spotlight opportunity that was given to them by these record label while they were ripping off the effort of the label boss or whoever believed so much in them & gave them the Spotlight . They probably would have been in the same upcoming artiste level till they finally give up . Now that’s not the issue though let me outline some important issues why most Nigerian artiste fail ..

FINANCES ▸
Many artists are under-funded .Sometimes this is a result of lack of funds to begin with. Sometimes it is because the available funds are not spent wisely. Successful artists know that they need to constantly invest and reinvest in their act. They establish a budget and stick with it. They raise capital if it is necessary, whether it comes from investors, crowdsourcing, a loan or some sort of enterprising venture. If they are not good at managing their money, they hire someone who is “A Manager” .

They measure the results of their efforts so they see and work to capitalize on even the smallest amounts of progress.

Many Nigerian artists are trying to be the next like 2face,Timaya, Burna Boy, Patoranking, Omawunmi etc instead of creating a sound and look all their own. Even though they may be incredibly talented, nothing about them distinguishes them from the artists they hear on the radio or the multitude of similar artists vying for attention. 0 VIDEO: P Square ShekiniPSquare
Africa’s biggest singing duo – P-Square – come through with the second video to one of the singles off their recently released 6th studio album, “Double Trouble”. “Shekini” video is an energetic pictorial which sees the artistes combine with youthful dancers to perform moves that’d bring you to life. From garages to underground scenes, the dark-themed flick definitely does justice to the song.

Video was directed by Clarence Peters, and song produced by Vtek, who also made a cameo appearance.”

Thanks to our wonderful judges and crew for their time and patience.. Below are photos from the #CarnirivMicCheckAudition
