For the past few months fans of ace comedian Julius Agwu have noticed and commented on his weight loss each time he steps out for an event. In this new and exclusive interview with Yes International Magazine, Julius Agwu opens up about his weight loss and the fact that he had brain surgery a few months ago.

According to him, he is very thankful and will be holding a thanksgiving service soon to tell the full story.

The Beginning – On the genesis of his ill health, he said he can’t say specifically when and how it started. But all he could recollect was that at some point, he went on and on losing serious weight, which got many people wondering. Some concerned ones started proffering solutions, both medically and spiritually, while others resorted to murmuring and gossiping.

The Breaking point – It went on and on until sometime in May when he had a seizure at home and while his wife, Ibiere, whom he lavished with so much thanks all through our stay for her love, care, understanding and support, battled to halt that, he ran out of breath. Almost lifeless. And with the likely consequences starring her in the face, Ibiere got their maid and the security man to assist her in getting him into one of their cars. And from there, they practically sprinted to their hospital in Lekki.Thank God the doctor was on call. He battled for hours with his team to ‘bring him back to life again’. And upon stabilizing him, Julius and his wife immediately left for the United States of America. Houston to be precise, where arrangement had been made at the Park Plaza Hospital.

The Diagnosis – After a series of tests, two lumps were discovered in his brain! The lumps had been messing up his health and causing his incessant weight loss. Immediately, the Caucasian surgeons went to work, operating on him for about 4 hours on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at the Park Plaza Hospital in Houston Texas, United States of America. Upon being discharged, Julius rested in the US for some time before returning home recently.

“Onyeoma, I no go lie to you, na dem I just dey think about. But like I said earlier, it’s God at work. I want to thank everybody who supported me in one way or the other. Those that were praying for me and all that. I’m planning a thanksgiving where I will still tell the full story. But for now, I just want to thank God and my wife. Onyeoma! My wife tried. The day I had the seizure, she put her finger in my mouth and I bit it…All the vomit; the mess; she was the one brushing and bathing me on the bed and clearing and cleaning them. IB really, really tried for me.”

Parents of the abducted students of Government Secondary School (GSS) Chibok, Borno, on Sunday alerted the public on the activities of some fraudsters using their names to defraud Nigerians and corporate bodies.

More than 200 students of the school were abducted by suspected insurgents on April 14, 2014, while writing their final examination.

Yakubu Maina, the Chairman of the association of parents of the abducted girls, raised the alert at a news conference in Maiduguri.

“We wish to alert Nigerians and corporate organisations on the existence of some individuals and organisations masquerading as parents of Chibok girls to defraud them of their money. The call became necessary because this group have turned the agitation for the release of our daughters into a scam,” he said.

Maina, suppported by the Secretary of the association, Lawan Zanna, lamented that the group had often deceived some parents of the girls into attending their functions only to be duped.

“We have realised that the whole thing have been turned into business by individuals who pretend to be fighting our cause. Some real parents had been lured to attending meetings with highly placed individuals in Abuja and beyond only to discover that they have been short changed by these individuals,” Maina said.

He also stated that 14 parents of the abducted girls have died due to heart related diseases.

“Fourteen parents have so far died since the abduction of our girls in 2014. Most of them died due mainly to heart related diseases and trauma,” said the chairman.

The Police in Yobe on Sunday confirmed the killing of six persons in a suicide bomb attack on a church in Potiskum.
Toyin Gbadegesin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu that the death included the suicide bomber.

The spokesman said: “A male suicide bomber detonated a bomb at Redeem Church at Jigawa area of Potiskum, killing five on the spot. A female member of the church who sustained injuries also died while receiving treatment in the hospital.’’

He said the injured are receiving treatment at various health facilities in the area.

NAN recalls that Potiskum last suffered a twin suicide attack on June 15, in which 10 people were killed and several others injured.

Police authorities have arrested some individuals said to be members of the robbery gang that robbed a Zenith Bank and First Bank branch respectively in June.

According to Punch, four suspects have been apprehended. They were arrested in Okitipupa, Ondo State, and Ikorodu, Lagos State, while three SUVs allegedly bought from the proceeds of the robbery were recovered.

The suspects have been identified as Monday Akpan, Bright Agbojule, “Jafaru,” and “Baba Ibeji.”

In addition, the report states:

The four members of the gang were arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, in an operation involving a former SARS commander, SP Abba Kyari, and an officer, DSP James Okeke.

PUNCH Metro gathered that one of the suspected robbers, a week after the operation, had headed for the Okitipupa area, Ondo State, with a Lexus bought with the proceeds of the robbery.

A police source told PUNCH Metro that the suspect was arrested by soldiers, who were on a stop-and-search exercise in Ondo State.

It was learnt that the suspect was also found with bundles of new N1,000 notes with bank seals.

The police source said the arrest was the break that the police needed, adding that the suspect later led policemen to arrest other members of the gang.

He said, “The soldiers were on a stop-and-search and they found the suspect, identified only as Baba Ibeji, while on his way to his home town in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

“During a search, they found bundles of new N1,000 notes with bank seals in his bag.

“The soldiers, who were also aware of the bank robbery in Lagos, smelt a rat and contacted the Lagos State Police Command on the development.

“The former CP, Kayode Aderanti, immediately contacted experienced hands in SARS for the interview of the suspect. The suspect gave the contacts and names of other suspects. The operatives subsequently mobilised more officers to Ikorodu and made some arrests.

“Three suspects were picked up by the police in Ikorodu. Two of them had bought Sport Utility Vehicles with the proceeds. All of them had bought plots of land with their loots. Three vehicles have been recovered for now.”

Our correspondent learnt that the suspects would be paraded on Monday (today) at the state command headquarters, Ikeja.

It was learnt that efforts were still being intensified to get other members of the gang, which reportedly numbered about 15.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrests in a text message.
