Last Wednesday, Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria organised a rally in Lagos to end its campaign for President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of Saturday’s election.
Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria last week organised a rally to ensure the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan and election of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje in Lagos.
TAN is a non-political organisation designed to promote good governance through individuals of impeccable character fostering the continuation of transformation. It comprises patriotic Nigerian citizens, professional men and women, youths, businessmen and businesswomen, artists, artisans, sportsmen and women, physically challenged persons, widows associations, Christian, Muslim and native religious groups, community, traditional and market leaders, and among others.
The organisation, according to the national vice chairman, Dr. Ifeanyi Uba, was formed after a critical analysis of Nigeria and the way forward for the country..
Meanwhile, the rally witnessed the distribution of trailers load of Goodluck Jonathan branded rice, five million “Vote right” education flyers, four million Goodluck Jonathan branded wrist bands, 2.5 million Goodluck Jonathan branded hand fans, 500,000 Goodluck Jonathan branded t-shirts, 500,000 Goodluck Jonathan branded face caps, 500,000 Goodluck Jonathan branded mufflers, 20,000 bales of Goodluck Jonathan branded wrappers, among others.
Speaking during the distribution, Ubah told supporters that TAN was the only volunteer group that knew how best to take care of its members, saying he wants a situation where when they go back to their various wards there will be visible evidence that they are in good hands. He urged the supporters not to relent until they had secured victory for their trusted and reliable candidates. According to him, “I have gone an extra mile to ensure that we meet our governor in the waiting, one on one.”
He pleaded with the governorship candidate of the party in Lagos, Dr. Jimmy Agbaje, to ensure that the suffering of the maltreated Okada men is alleviated once he assumes power, as they form a massive chunk of the Lagos populace.
On his part, Agbaje stated that with a group like TAN Nigerian leadership will only get better. He said, “I am preparing for a grand victory for President Goodluck Jonathan on March 28 after which I am certain that it will be victory all the way to April 11, when I will be proclaimed the governor of Lagos State.
“It behoves God to reward with success he that has worked well. Thus, TAN means well for Nigeria and have worked hard, and your efforts will be crowned with success, by the special grace of God.” He maintained that seeing the structure on ground, he had no doubt that PDP would have a landslide victory at the polls.
Agbaje urged supporters not to be afraid to come out and vote on election days, saying he is fully in support of the military coming out to protect voters and ensure violence free elections. He also stressed that they were not asking the military to rig the elections for them, but to protect well-meaning Nigerians from thugs.
Agbaje added that the military had never rigged election for any group or party in Nigeria, but had protected voters and their votes, explaining that that is what they will do this time around.
“The victory will not only be for President Goodluck Jonathan and Dr. Jimmy Agbaje, but for TAN also, because there is no way you can write on the election victory, without giving TAN its due credit.”
Politics, Agbaje said, is a game of interest and all those that participate have a right to benefit from it. He said TAN should not be dissolved after the elections because it formed the beginning of a movement for good governance in Nigeria.
The PDP candidate urged TAN to keep themselves organised so that they can have proper representation in government, not only in Lagos but also in the remaining 35 states plus Abuja,
Ubah stressed that TAN was a grassroots volunteer group, which can boast of the best grassroots structure in Nigeria. He said TAN’s membership cut across 861 verifiable support groups in Lagos State alone. He specially recognised the okada riders group, which he said has over 600,000 members, for their relentless support.
He maintained that TAN had visible presence in all the churches, mosques, markets, streets and wards in Lagos State. This, according to him, is so because TAN employs both one-on-one and online sensitisation.
Ubah said through the media TAN had showcased the good works of Jonathan, giving adequate reasons why he should be re-elected for a second term to consolidate on his efforts. He urged supporters not to be afraid, saying if in any way they sense any form of danger, they should call TAN office for protection. He enjoined supporters to go with the message of Jonathan and Agbaje to their places of abode and work, and convince their neighbours and colleagues on why these candidates are better than others vying for the same positions.
In his appreciation speech, Alhaji Kola Balogun, a chieftain of PDP, thanked TAN for a job well done. He urged supporters not to relent, stating that in due time their efforts will be crowned with success. And by then, they will proudly beat their chests and say, “I contributed to Goodluck Jonathan and Jimmy Agbaje’s victory at the polls,” Balogun said.
